-------------1200 BC - 1800s AD-------------
Calusa Indians ruled Southwest Florida until approximately 1600 A.D. The Seminole Indians dominated into the mid-1800s and dug a working canal north of Naples Yacht Club to the Gulf for fishing.

----------------------1880s----------------------
Naples pioneers, Kentuckians Walter Haldeman and General John Williams, were preceded by Madison Weeks who ran a fish camp at Gordon Pass. The Old Naples Hotel opened in 1889 and became the social scene of early Naples.

------------------1920s - 1930s------------------
Barron Collier completed the Tamiami Trail to the East coast in 1928. Atlantic Coast railroad "Orange Blossom Special" provided train service to Naples in the 1930s.

----------------------1940s----------------------
In 1947, Naples Yacht Club is founded. President Harry Truman dedicated the Everglades National Park. The City of Naples in incorporated in 1949.

----------------------1950s----------------------
In 1951, Naples buys the Army's air field which became the Naples Airport. Naples Yacht Club founding member Glen Sample begins Port Royal development. The Naples Players begin performing in 1953 and, in 1954, the Naples Art Association is formed. Naples Memorial Hospital dedicates its first 50 beds in 1956. The Naples Yacht Club acquired the site at 7th Street South and 14th Avenue South to become its permanent home.

In August of 1960, the Naples Yacht Club, along with twelve other clubs on the west coast of Florida, met to discuss the forming of an association of like clubs throught the state. In July of 1961, Articles of Incorporation were filed for the Florida Council of Yacht Clubs (FCYC). This organization has grown over the years to 38 clubs at the present. As members of this organization, clubs enjoy reciprocity year-round for boating and dining throughout the state. Hurricane Donna hit Naples days after completing construction on Naples Yacht Club's first clubhouse and dock in September of 1960. After repairing the damage, the new clubhouse if formally dedicated on December 15, 1960. Two years later, Naples becomes the county seat (formerly Everglades City).

Naples Yacht Club begins its tradition of sailboat racing by serving as the finishing point for races from Isla Mujeres and co-hosting long distance races from St. Petersburg. Westinghouse Corporation begins its Pelican Bay development.

----------------------1980s----------------------
Naples Yacht Club inaugurates a 97-mile overnight race to Key West, in partnership with the Key West Yacht Club, which grows in popularity until reaching a maximum of 44 boats hailing from Sarasota to Marco Island. Scripps Howeard purchases Naples Daily News from the Collier family. The Philharmonic Center for the Arts opens.

----------------------1990s----------------------
Much to the benefit of the Naples Yacht Club, the location of the Key West race is changed to a more local venue - Naples to Fort Myers to Boca Grande and back - an 88-mile race that is still being run today. The Naples Yacht Club docks and clubhouse undergo various important renovations.

----------------------2000s----------------------
Naples Yacht Club completes its strategic plan in 2006, outlining its largest renovation to-date. In 2007, Naples Yacht Club begins clubhouse renovation - a multi-year, state-of-the-art expansion that pays tribute to the past with a nautical theme and traditional design. The expansion is a great success. Naples Yacht Club embarks upon a "new dimension" while steadfastly holding onto its long-standing traditions and distinguised reputation.
