History
Many years ago, the Naples Yacht Club Chapter of the International Order of the Blue Gavel (an organization of past commodores) established a Scholarship Fund for employees of the Naples Yacht Club and their families. Early efforts were rather modest ($100 per past commodore) but the seed was planted and contributions continued to grow. During 2010, the Naples Yacht Club Chapter Blue Gavel Scholarship Fund donated thirty eight (38) college scholarships to area high school students, totaling $38,000. In addition, the Club also contributed $10,000 to the Florida Gulf Coast University Foundation for Naples-area scholarship applicants, and awarded many other scholarships to its employees and their families.

During the last six years, the Naples Yacht Club has awarded 262 scholarships totaling $243,000 to local high school senors alone.

The Tax-Exempt Fund
In 1998, the Scholarship Fund changed its name to the Naples Yacht Club Blue Gavel Scholarship Fund, Inc., and is now classified as a tax exempt organization under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Service Code. Therefore, donations are tax deductible. This has greatly enhanced our mission.

Mission Statement
Our predominate mission is to engage in the activity of making grants to deserving and qualified members of the public to assist them in achieving a college or vocational education. This includes, but is not limited to, employees of the Naples Yacht Club and their families.

Donations
Donations and memorials are tax deductible for income tax purposes. Bequests, legacies, devises, transfers, and gifts are tax deductible for Federal estate and gift tax purposes if they meet the applicable provisions of the Code.

Contributions should be sent to:
Naples Yacht Club Blue Gavel Scholarship Fund, Inc.

Naples

Scholarship Grants
The Scholarship Fund meets two (2) times a year to approve applications. Applications are available in the Naples Yacht Club office for Naples Yacht Club employees and their families. Qualified members of the public in the Collier County area are selected through the school system. Applications must be completed in full and in detail and received by the Scholarship Fund prior to April 1st and November 1st. If approved, a check will be issued in the name of the institution the grantee will attend. Upon conclusion of the term, evidence of satisfactory completion is required by the Scholarship Fund.

A Note From the President of the Fund
"The pursuit of education is almost universally accepted as one of the highest priorities needed throughout the world. We are dedicated to giving as many grants to qualified persons as possible with your help."
